I am writing my second book about the fighting at Khe Sanh in 1968 and am trying get information about a mission that a Black Knight chopper may have run in the days just following 6 July 1968 to recover the body of a Marine who was left on a hill west of Khe Sanh base (at AMS map coordinate XD 772 440).

If someone from 3d Squadron, 5th Cavalry was on that mission, or if anyone else has information about it, and where the body might have been taken, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,

Michael Archer

Dean, your right I was with the 25th Infantry until they stood down then I got reassigned to 3/5 Cav. The guy who trained me to drive the tank was a guy I want to say they called him Mac. I still have my zippo lighter with a Sheridan on it and Someday on the main gun!! I would have gotten to C Troop around the end of October first of November!!

Ron, I wasn't on the tank when they hit the mine. I had lucked out and got a rear job right before we got back from the Operation at Khe Sahn!! I think of John, Stoner and the others everyday, I was lucky!!!! Dennis was from Mack Creek Mo. and John was from Elyria Oh. I think of them everyday great guys Stoner would drink beer from a can with the top opened then he would open the bottom and let it flow, we called them Stoner sodas. Thanks for responding I really appreciate it!!!

Served with C Troop 3rd platoon 70-71 I drove a Sheridan #37. I was the driver until early April 71, then John Gentkowski took my place. Stoner moved into the loaders spot. Just 2 weeks later they hit a mine south of Qaung Tri, I was hoping I might hear back from someone who may remember!!!!
