Comments: Arrived in VietNam 14 Feb 1969 and assigned to an Engineer unit near Saigon in a town called Ben Luc even though I was an 11B. When C Troop 3/5 Cav lost a few members in May 1969 I was transferred to C Troop way up north on Firebase Bastogne. We ran security for convoys going to Firebase Blaze and the Ashau valley. Every now and again we'd be called out to help someone who got ambushed or whatever. Usually in the middle of the night.

Comments: My uncle Charles Ted Gilley was in this unit. He was killed Aug. 25, 1971 in the Quang Tri Province, I think it was "friendly" fire. I believe he drove an APC.
