C TROOP NEWSLETTER November 22, 2017

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! This is a time to share some quality time with your family and friends and to reflect on all those things that we are thankful for.

It has been quite a while since our last newsletter so there is a lot of catching up to do. We had a very successful reunion and memorial dedication at Fort Benning this past July. We had between 375 and 400 BIA, family, and guest in attendance. Our dedication ceremony consisted of a Fort Benning graduation at the parade field, an overview of the forward plans for Patton's Park, a history of the Cavalry and specifically the 3/5 Cavalry, and it culminated with a 1971 3/5 Cav Huey flying in for a landing directly in front of the grandstands. This was followed by the unveiling of our memorial, lunch, and our memorial service at the First Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. On Saturday night, we had our cocktail reception and banquet at the National Infantry Museum which caped off a memorable reunion. If you were one of the ones attending, I am sure that you would agree that this may have been the best reunion ever.

Howie Bachman and Earl Walker have been working diligently finalizing plans for our 2018 C Troop reunion which is to be held at the Holiday Inn Express, September 13 thru 15, 2018, in Charleston, SC. While plans have not bee completely finalized, Earl is working on a schedule that would include a tour, memorial services, and a special military ceremony at the Citadel—so stay tuned for more information. We will begin to take reservations in the weeks to come.

Additionally, we have finalized the location for our 2019 Squadron reunion. It will be held in Reno, NV, on October 16 thru 18, 2019 at the Peppermill Resort, Spa, and Casino. There has been an overwhelming desire on the part of our brothers for a fall date—so we have attempted to fulfill that request. Your reunion committee has been committed to coming up with a facility that is both upscale and at an affordable price. We feel that we have accomplished both in selecting the Peppermill and at a rate of about $117.00 for an average night's stay which includes all taxes and fees. When we compare that to the Double Tree in Columbus, GA, we are some $14.00 less expensive per night. While we will not be making reservations until next October, it is not too early to mark your calendar and begin setting your plans.

With regards to the Squadron Memorial, I can't thank our fellow C Troopers enough. You as a troop were far and away the largest contributor in our raising some $105,000.00 to fund the project. If you have not made a donation or purchased a black granite paver for yourself, I am attaching an updated order form that you can simply complete and return to me. Additionally, we ask that you consider making a donation to the 3rd Squadron 5th Cavalry Memorial Fund in honor of a brother passing to

Fiddler's Green or in other situations requesting that you honor a person by donating to a charity. Again, our organization is a recognized charity; and as such, all donations are tax deductible.

One final point; Amazon has a program whereby they credit a charitable organization ½ of 1% of any purchases—there is no difference in their pricing. We are a designated charity under this program "Black Knights, Weston, FL"; and we have begun to receive credit on purchase made--$30.00 to date. While this amount is insignificant at this point, I am sure that you can see the potential for raising funds for the squadron. I am sure that there are those of you who will never participate in this program; however, we all have sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives that use Amazon; and with one stroke of the key, they can support our fundraising efforts. I encourage you to save and disseminate the following link to Amazon Smile.

Again, have a Great Thanksgiving!
