Black Knights Book

Reported to Charlie Horse 10 May 1971, left unit early Mar 1972. I was the only hydraulics man in CH my entire tour. I have endless tales to tell but from a maintenance view. I hug out with David Cornish, Joe Couch, Mac MacLaughlin, Bill Goodman, Bob Mitchel (Dyna), Sp6 Buzzell, SSG Jim Higgins, SFC Belcher, Sp5 Wheaty Wheaten and Animal to name a few. Of 4 tours this is the one in my dreams. I retired as the 1SG of the Comancheros, A Co 101st Avn Bn, from Desert Storm Jan 91. I am a lifetime member of the Black Knights and hope to be at the next reunion.

I'm sitting here and it came tom that 54 years ago at this time in 1968 the Tet started and changed our lives forever. For quite a few weeks and months to be sure. After we survived the Tet down South, Hue and Asha Valley, it's just a reminder how long ago it's been. What you all did after I left 5-68 is unknown to me but I'm sure it wasn't any better maybe alot worse but we did our job for each other. Just wanted to say after all these years I still remember those times and am so fortunate to be sitting here in the comfort of my home and reflecting on the bravery of our troopers at that time. You didn't know you were brave but you were.

I just looked at the site "Vietnam, Where & When" and found SSG David Powell who I have been looking for since 1974. He was 28 TC and 27 later for me in 1970. He is not a member but lives in St Petersburg, Fl. Trouble is the site doesn't show me a way to contact him that I can figure out. But it brought a huge smile on my face just seeing his name. Steve Scozylsas and I tried for years to find him and now Ski is gone. That makes my sad.

Sgt Weekly, I'm still kickin you came to our tank when you came to our platoon in 67'. I've got pictures of you sitting on the coupalo with your Drill Sgt. hat on. Remember when John Lay, our gunner took the telescope out and we installed another coax in it's place. Sure played the devil on my ears when both M73's going off over my head as driver, deafening. always hoped John made it home. Great guy. Glad to see you're still with us, those were some exciting days to say the least. I do wear hearing aids now,Ha!
